Frequently asked questions
What is unclaimed money?
Simply, it is money that has lost its connection with its rightful owner. It happens. For example, moving house but not changing your address details with the institutions and organisations you deal with can result with these same institutions and organisations losing contact with you.
Dormant and forgotten bank accounts, uncashed and non-deposited cheques, unclaimed dividends and capital payouts, shares, investments, life insurance policies, refunds, rental bonds, deposits, superannuation, deceased estates where the beneficiaries are unable to the contacted or located are all common sources of monies which become unclaimed.
Where does the money go?
Unclaimed monies are required by respective State and Federal laws to be forwarded to the relevant government body. This unclaimed money is held in trust accounts by the relevant government body until it is claimed.
Businesses are required by law to forward unclaimed monies to the relevant government body.
Why have you contacted me?
We believe that you have unclaimed monies owing to you or your organisation. One of our first steps is to contact you and confirm that you are the rightful owner of these funds.
How did you get my information?
Our Researchers utilise publicly and openly available sources to identify potential money owners. Our goal is to find and reconnectthe rightful owners of unclaimed and lost monies.
How can I prove my legal ownership of the unclaimed funds?
The type of unclaimed monies will determine what specific documentation is required. Generally, proof of ownership and connection to the monies and proof of identity must be established.
We will guide and assist you through the documentation required. But for your reference,
Proof of identity documentation will include birth certificate, driver’s licence, passport, Medicare card or other identity card.
Acceptable address connection documentation includes driver’s licence, rates notice, utilities bill, or a financial institution statement.
For deceased estates, a certified copy of the Grant of Probate or Letters of Administration must also be supplied.
What is a certified copy and why is it required?
A document that is certified is declared to be correct, true or genuine by a Justice of the Peace, Solicitor or other proscribed person.
Certified copies of relevant documents are required to ensure that these same original documents are correct, true and genuine and can be used to support your claim.
How long does it take to recover my funds?
The process will ordinarily take between four to eight weeks. Government institutions have their own processing timeframes, which are out of our control and these can delay the process. The speed of recovering the monies is also dependent upon the documentation you are able to provide to support the claim.
As part of our service commitment to you we will keep you informed every step of the process and advise if there is likely to be any delay.
How much is this going to cost me?
Our fees are detailed in our Terms and Conditions.
Are there any upfront or hidden fees?
No. Our fees are only paid once monies are successfully reclaimed and are deducted from the proceeds of the claim. These fees are detailed in our Terms and Conditions.
What happens if I engage Find Me My Money but the monies are never recovered?
If the monies are never recovered there is no cost to you. If the monies are unable to be recovered by Find Me My Money there is no charge. We are paid only on the successful reclamation of your money.
What do I do if I receive a letter from another company offering a similar service?

What happens if I do nothing about these unclaimed monies?
